STORE OF THE WEEK: Tourists Shop Bata in Flamingo Country

Tourists travel to Nakuru, Kenya for a one-of-a-kind experience, and when they stop at the local Bata store, they get customized service as well. The town is located on the shore of a shallow lake that is home to abundant flamingos.

Lake Nakuru is part of a treasured national park in the Rift Valley. Besides the draw of the alkaline lake’s popular and striking flamingo population, the surrounding area also offers a large volcano and many wild animals, so the area is well-traveled.

For five years now, the whole family can find the footwear they’re looking for at the Bata store in the town’s Westside Mall.

The store’s product mix is made up of 32 percent women’s, 20 percent men’s, 19 percent flip-flops, 15 percent children’s and 14 percent school shoes. Its best sellers are casual city shoes, followed by women’s canvas shoes and sandals.

“Customer service is key,” Cecilia Mwangi said about her role managing the store’s staff of seven. “We go the extra mile to personalize the service we offer to our regular customers. Through the relationships that we have created with our customers, we understand each one’s unique style and maintain regular contact with them to inform them of new arrivals that cater to their style preference and need.”
