A host of dignitaries graced the event held at the Showgrounds, chief among them the country’s minister of finance, Felix Mutati, who inaugurated the Bata Power Race. He was flanked by Prosper Bachi, country manager of Bata Zambia; Elias Mpondela, president of the host Zambia Amateur Athletics Association; and Bata management and staff.
The daylong Saturday competition included a wide range of activities, the most highly anticipated being a 10-kilometer relay race and a 100-meter CEO race.
The Bata team that participated in the 10-kilometer relay race emerged first in the Manufacturers category and proudly accepted the winner’s trophy.
The first-place winner of the individual 10-kilometer women’s Power Race was Felistus Mphande.
After the event, Mutati toured the Bata stand with other dignitaries to admire and appreciate the collection presented.
Bachi commented, “Bata is excited to be a part of this annual event in which individuals of all walks of life come together to celebrate life and health. The Power Race is the first of its kind in the country and has really emphasized that running with Bata powers you to victory.”
